INDICATORS ON MANAGEMENT OF WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION AVAILABLE

Paragraphs 56 to 58 of the International Code of Conduct lay out commitments concerning management of weapons while paragraph 60 to 62 concern the management of ammunition. In the second half of 2021, with the support of the Swiss Government, the Small Arms Survey, in partnership with ICoCA undertook research to investigate the challenges managing weapons, ammunition, and weapons training and to develop a series indicators on which to assess ICoCA private security company Members and Affiliates.

The indicators developed by the Small Arms Survey and ICoCA are based on authoritative publications and established good practice on these issues within the private security industry and wider (e.g. MOSAIC, ISO 18788 and ANSI/ASIS PSC1). They address the legal domain as well industry standards and good practice. They provide a pathway for Private Security Companies wishing to enhance proficiency in the management of weapons and ensure regulatory compliance. They also provide the framework for reaching affiliate, transitional membership and certified membership status in ICoCA.

These indicators are made freely available to any interested parties, click on the links below.
