On 27 and 28 February 2018, the Executive Director of the International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA), Jamie Williamson, attended the Regional Meeting of the Montreux Document Forum, in San Jose, Costa Rica. The focus of the meeting was on ‘Regulating private and military security companies (PMSCs) in Latin America and the Caribbean’. ICoCA was invited to present on initiatives to supervise the activities of private security companies (PSCs) and on the core functions of the Association. The Executive Director briefed on the Association’s activities aimed at raising the standards of the PSC industry, underscoring the benefits for clients contracting with ICoCA Member Companies.
Participants included Governments from Latin America and the Caribbean, CARICOM, the EU, Switzerland, the UK, France, Canada, the US and Germany, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the extractive industry and PSCs. The meeting was held under the Chatham House Rule.
ICoCA has Member Companies and CSOs in Trinidad & Tobago, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti and Peru.
